Virginia State rallies for 9-8 walk-off win over Millersville (PA)

GAME 1 | Virginia State 9, Millersville (PA) 8

ETTRICK, Va --The Virginia State Trojans secured a win in walk-off fashion, responding to score two in the bottom of the seventh after Millersville (PA) jumped in front in the top half, sealing the victory on a single off the bat of Micaiah Cooper to take down the Marauders 9-8 Friday.

Madison Jones (1-2) got the win for Virginia State (1-5). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up eight runs, four earned, on nine hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

At the plate, the Trojans were paced by Cooper, who went 4-for-4 on the day with a walk and two RBIs. Lauren Parham compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a walk. Nanye' Cain-Dixon also helped out for Virginia State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Virginia State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Jones.

The Marauders failed to push any runs across before the Trojans offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. which brought the Trojans lead to 7-0.

Millersville (PA) then rallied to take an 8-7 lead before Virginia State scored two runs in the bottom half of the seventh to grab the win, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Cooper.

ETTRICK, Va. --It was a nailbiter on Friday, as the Virginia State Trojans was unable to push that tying run across, and came up one run short of victory, falling to the Millersville (PA) Marauders 3-2.

Carma Williams (0-2) got the ball to start for Virginia State (1-6) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.

At the plate, the Trojans were paced by Reina Washington, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the third inning. Nanye' Cain-Dixon came across to score the lone run of the inning for Virginia State and get them on the board.

The Marauders then scored one run to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning, when the Trojans responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Virginia State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Washington, which evened the score at 2-2. Millersville (PA) then scored one time over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 3-2 win.
