Parham notches 2 extra base hits in Virginia State's loss to Pace

GAME 1 | Pace 4, Virginia State 3

ETTRICK, Va. --The Virginia State Trojans got three hits from Lauren Parham in a 4-3 loss to the Pace Setters Sunday.

Ava Brown (0-3) got the ball to start for Virginia State (1-7) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits.

In addition to her three hits, Parham had a triple, a walk and an RBI to lead the Trojans. Mylia Knight put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Shmya Hankins also chipped in for Virginia State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Virginia State got an RBI single from Carma Williams, scoring Parham from first base.

The Setters then tied the ballgame at one before the Trojans came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. Virginia State scored a run on an RBI triple off the bat of Parham, scoring Nanye' Cain-Dixon, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Trojans.

Ty'Nia Ball (0-1) got the ball to start for Virginia State (1-8) and took the loss. Madison Jones was a bright spot for the Trojans, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three scoreless innings, allowing two hits.

Parham's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles. Mylia Knight furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Emma Fleming also contributed for the Trojans, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Virginia State scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Knight. The Trojans were unable to hold the lead, as Pace scored four times over the remaining six innings to grab the 5-2 win.
