Box Score RALEIGH, NC- The Virginia State University men's basketball team overpowered the Shaw University Bears on February 3, with a final score of 88-67.
Holding the no. 1 spot in the CIAA Northern Division, the Trojans advance to a 15-4 overall record, 10-1 in the CIAA.
VSU ended the night shooting 49.2 percent (31-64) from the field, 42.9 percent (9-21) from behind the arc and 73.9 percent (17-23) from the free throw line.

Kevin Williams (Franklinton, NC) powered the Trojans offense with 18 points while junior All-CIAA Preseason pick
Elijah Moore (Yorktown, VA) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 16 points. Williams and Moore were evenly matched in recoveries, each securing 7 rebounds.
In the first half, VSU took an early lead, pulling away from the Bears 7 minutes into the game. Minutes later, Shaw closed the scoring gap, tying the game 13-13. Senior

Rookie
Walter Williams (Richmond, VA) started the second half off with a 3-point shot to maintain VSU's momentum. The Trojans had the largest lead of the night during the second half with 27 points. With a little under 3 minutes left in the game,

The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
