Box Score Mars Hill, NC- The VSU Trojan men's basketball team took down the Lions of Mars Hill University on November 26 with a final score of 96-68.

The win advanced the Trojans to a 5-2 overall record.

Taking the lead for the Trojans against the Lions was junior Richard Granberry with 16 points and 6 rebounds while teammate senior Kevin Williams secured 14 points. Sophomore Cyonte Melvin chipped in 13 points while senior Elijah Moore rounded out the double digit scoring with 12 points.

Granberry started the game off with a layup, but the Lions would quickly answer back and take a short 4-2 lead. Junior Waymond Wright quickly crushed Mars Hills' chances of holding the lead with a shot from behind the arc. Kevin Williams soon followed with a 3 pointer that would send the Trojans on an extensive run in the first half. VSU went into halftime with a 54-31 lead.

The Trojans moved forward in the second half, dominating the court to leave the home team in the dust. VSU's largest lead of the game was in the second half with 30 points. Regulation ended in favor of the Trojans with a score of 96-68.

Taking charge on the court, the Trojans gain 35 points off of turnovers, 41 bench points, 15 second chance points and 12 points off of fast breaks.

VSU ended the night shooting 59.4 percent (41-69) from the field, 45.5 percent (10-22) from behind the arc, and 44.4 percent (4-9) at the line, while the Lions ended the night shooting 49.1 percent (27-55) from the field, 7.1 percent (1-14) from behind the arc, and 81.3 percent (13-16) at the line.

The Trojans will return to the court on December 5 to go up against Lees McRae University. The 7pm contest will be played in Banner Elk, NC on the Bobcats home court.
