Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Trojans women's basketball team secured their first win of the season on November 18 against The Apprentice School Builders, 81-54. With the win the Trojans improve to a 1 -2 record early in the season. 
 
VSU shot 40.5 percent (32-79) from the floor, 45.5 percent (5-15) from behind the arc, and 60.0 percent (12-20) from the foul line.
 
Senior Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) recorded her third double-double of the season by leading the Trojans with 18 points, 12 rebounds. Pittman also tallied 2 assist, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Junior Philandra Jordan (Woodbridge, VA) also chipped in 11 points for VSU.

The Trojans had an explosive first quarter, out scoring the Builders by 19 points. VSU kept thier momentum for a 22 point halftime lead of 42-20. The tempo did not change for the remaining two quarters, as the Trojans breezed by with a game high lead of 39 points. VSU undoubtedly took the victory with a final score of 81-54.
 
As the holiday season swiftly approaches, the VSU women's basketball team will be hosting thier annual Thanksgiving Classic on November 27-28 in Daniel Gynamsium. The Trojans will take on Nyack on Friday, Novembr 27 at 6pm and Shaw on Saturday, November 28 at 3pm.
 
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
