Box Score CHARLESTON, WV- The Virginia State University Trojans men's basketball team clinched an 84-77 double overtime win against the University of Charleston Golden Eagles on November 17.

The Trojans move to a 2-1 overall record as the season kicks into high gear.

VSU shot 39.8 percent (33-83) from the field, 28.6 percent (8-28) from behind the arc and 83.3 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.

Junior Elijah Moore (Yorktown, VA) led the game with 24 points and led the Trojans with 8 total rebounds while teammate junior Kevin Williams (Franklinton, NC) chipped in 16 points. Sophomore Tyler Peterson (Virginia Beach, VA) rounded out the double digit scoring for the Trojans with 13 points.

The Trojans had a slow run at the beginning of the first half as the Golden Eagles led by as much as 11 points. A layup from rookie Joseph Bradshaw (Silver Springs, MD) gave the Trojans focus to come within 2 points, trail Charleston 30-28 going into halftime.

The second half seemed to mimic the first until a jumper by Peterson with 5:17 on the clock tied the game 51-51. There was a back and forth struggle for the lead until the Trojans sent the Golden Eagles to the line. Charleston secured 2 shots to send the game into overtime, 58-58.

It was a team effort as the Trojans worked to take the win. With the Golden Eagles on the same mission, the game was tied 68-68 at the buzzer.

VSU took the court in the second overtime ready to seal the win. Charleston could not answer back to the Trojans as they collected baskets at the line and in the paint. The Trojans took a 7 point lead to take the 84-77 win over the Charleston Golden Eagles.

The Trojans will travel to Mount Olive, NC to participate in the Pickle Classic on November 20-21 on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.

The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
