Women's Basketball Takes a Season Opener Upset

Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.-The Virginia State University women's basketball team took a season opener upset in their 58-69 matchup against Slippery Rock University on November 13.

VSU shot 44 percent (9-21) in field goals, 26.7 percent (3-11) from behind the arc and 73.3 (5-6) percent from the free throw line.

The Trojans had a 45-38 lead going into the fourth quarter after having a fluctuated lead during the game. VSU came up short the back and forth battle.

Senior Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) led the Trojans scoring 18 points, 1 block, 1 steals, and 4 assists.

The Trojans will face Seton Hill on November 14 at 2pm in Slippery Rock, Pa.

The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home volleyball and basketball games this season.
