Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Trojan men's basketball team came out victorious in a 73-69 overtime win against The Lincoln University Lions on January 31. The men are currently 15-5 overall, 9-2 in the CIAA conference and 6-0 in the division.
VSU shot 41.5 percent (17-41) in field goals, 41.7 percent (5-12) from behind the arc and 79.1 (34-43) percent from the free throw line.
Leading the Trojans and the game in scoring was senior
Tyrece Little with 18 points while collecting 9 rebounds. Tony Efese and Joshua Davis of the Lions led their team in scoring with 14 each for the night. Other Trojans who scored in the double digits were senior
Lamar Kearse with 15 points, sophomore
Elijah Moore with 10 points and rookie
Tyler Peterson with 10 points.
The Trojans took charge of the first half, leaving the Lions in the dust. A shot from behind the arc by Kearse put the Trojans up 21-8 with 7:39 left in the half. As the clock ran down, VSU kept the double digit scoring gap. Senior
Xavier Parham sunk a 3 point shot at the halftime buzzer bring the score to 35-22.
The Lions rallied back in the second half, tying the game 57-57 with 4:38 left on the clock. At the buzzer the score was tied 60-60 as the crowd went wild for the overtime matchup. VSU stayed strong securing all of their overtime free throws, which secured their 73-69 win.
VSU will be back in action on Wednesday, February 4 to take on St. Augustine's University in the Faculty and Staff Appreciation/ Sock it to the Falcons Game. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
