WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Virginia State University Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field teams brought two trophies back to Ettrick, VA after the 2014 CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. The Women finished in second place overall while the men finished in third place. On the women's side, Hughnique Rolle was named Outstanding Performer of the Championship after winning the individual 800m, Mile and 3000m race.  Rolle also lead off the Championship winning Distance Medley Relay.
The Men's team had some outstanding performances from their short sprinters and hurdlers; this was the first time that the Trojans had two finalists in every final contested from the 60m dash up to the Mile, and including the hurdles.  Day one saw Hildrew McNair get the team started with his back to back Pole Vault Championship Title.  The men's 4x400m Relay of Te'Shad Chambers, Justin Williams, Charles Robinson, and Clive Cameron closed out the meet running a season best in that relay and moved up to the number 3 spot in the nation.
 
"Championship season always brings out the best in our team.  When we start back in the fall this time of year is always the focus.  Obviously you enter with the focus of winning a team title, but walking away with some hardware is always a good feeling.  On both the Men's and Women's teams, we have become one of the mainstays who will always be in the hunt for that CIAA Team Championship Trophy, that's something for our student-athletes to be proud of and to set the tone for those who will come after them." added Head Coach Jason-Lamont Jackson
