It Was a Cold Loss for the Trojans

ETTRICK, VA- The winter storm did not stop the game between Virginia State University and Chowan University men's basketball teams, on February 12, in Daniel Gymnasium. The Trojans took a cold 64-71 loss.

Junior forward Larry Savage (Onancock, VA) led the Trojans with 16 points and eight rebounds and not too far behind was Senior guard Christopher Grier (Stone Mountain, GA) with 12 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.

After two minutes of play, junior guard Lamar Kearse (Syracuse, NY) was fouled and went to the free throw line and made the first point of the game.  As the Trojans worked the court, they gained a seven point lead on the Hawks.  Leading up to the 3:35 mark, Kortez Smith of the Hawks hit a three point to give his team the lead.  At the end of the first half, the Hawks went into the locker room leading 32-29.

Savage breezed by the Hawks scoring 12 of his 16 points in the second half of play.  All the effort the Trojans put forward was not enough to stop the Hawks from taking a 17 point lead with 4:03 minutes remaining in the game.  Virginia State turned things around to come within five points, before the Hawks were able to score and close the game defeating the Trojans, 64-71.

The Trojans (12-10) will be back in action on Saturday, February 15 to take on the Elizabeth City State Vikings (11-12) in Elizabeth City, NC. The game will tip-off at 7:30p.m.
