Trojans send Livingstone home singing the Blues

PETERSBURG, Va.- The Virginia State University men's basketball team sent Livingstone College home singing the blues. After a six game losing streak, the Trojans are back in action with their 67-58 victory over the Blue Bears.

The Trojans were in the lead for the majority of the first half. Kevin Wiggins got the team on the board after a turnover by Livingstone's Mark Thomas. Soon after, Kahlil Tate of the Trojans secured a three point shot followed by a dunk from Ameil Terry for two. The Trojans high energy performance of collecting rebounds and securing steals declined as the Blue Bears tied the game 24-24 with 3:35 left in the first half. In that short time frame, the Trojans gained four points while the Blue

Bears captured nine points to end the first half 33-28.
In the second half, the Trojans were determined to win, tying the game 35-35 four minutes into the half. The Trojans and Blue Bears tussled back and forth for the lead for nine minutes with a two point scoring gap. Christopher Grier ended the clash with a three pointer to give Virginia State a five point leading margin. Lamar Kearse mimicked his teammate and made a three point shot soon after. The Blue Bears could feel the pressure and began to foul the Trojans obsessively. Virginia State took advantage of the fouls, rebounds and turnovers to get the victory.

Grier, Kearse, Terry and Wiggins were key players in this game. Grier collected 13 points, three rebound, and four assists while Kearse made 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. Terry secured 10 points and three rebounds while Wiggins had eight points and 13 rebounds.
