Trojan Softball Hits the Road for a Six-Game Series

Box Score After winning the last six conference games, Virginia State University softball team is looking to expand on their winning streak.  This weekend the Trojans will travel to Chowan University on Saturday and Elizabeth City State University on Sunday to compete two doubleheaders.  The Trojans will complete the road series when they travel to Virginia Union University on Tuesday, April 2nd for a doubleheader.

The Trojans coming off a  15-10 and 17-4 victory against Virginia University Lynchburg (non-conference) on Thursday, March 28th looks forward to this weekend.  The Trojans (10-11 overall, 8-1 CIAA) will play a doubleheader against the Hawks (14-18 overall, 7-0 CIAA) and the Vikings (0-13 overall, 0-9 CIAA) in hope of increasing their CIAA record to 12-1 in conference play.

Coach Lashley shared with her team that every game is important as it prepares you for conference and regional play.  In the game against Virginia University of Lynchburg Coach Lashley was able to use her bench allowing those players an opportunity to see action up close and personal.  Inez Hudson (pitcher) pitched the first game giving up 10 hits on defense and on offense she came to bat 5 times and was able to get a hit, run and RBI for the team.  The second game Sherrie Smith (pitcher) gave up 5 hits and also added flavor to the team by coming to bat 3 times to record 2 runs, 2 hits, and 4 RBI.  Top pitcher Jessica Mattia who did not pitch either game will take the mount on Saturday as the Trojans face the Hawks.
