Trojans Break A School Record, Qualify for Nationals, and Win Relays at Patriot Games

RESULTS
First year Graduate Student Darien Kearney heaved the shot put three feet further than his own school record this past weekend, and in doing so not only did he secure first place in the competition; he provisionally qualified the Division II NCAA Championships in March. Kearney has been on a roll this season, this is the second time in three competitions which he has broken his own school record originally set last year.

Samantha Edwards punched another individual NCAA Championship ticket in the winning the women's 200m, she has now qualified in the open 400m and 200m dashes. Senior, All-American, Daniel Ross also provisionally qualified in the men's 200m dash, adding that to his provisional time in the 400m from last week.

At the end of the meet, Edwards teamed up with Alicia Terry, Taylor-Ashley Bean and previous NCAA All-American Jovonne Tyson-King to win the 4x400m relay and secured their spot at the NCAA Championships in March. Not to be out done, the men's 4x400m relay of Ross, Te'Shad Chambers, Clive Cameron and Prince Owusu-Mensah won the event and moved up from their previous ranking of 12th to the 8th fastest relay in the nation.

The NCAA will select 16 Individuals, 14 Multi Event Athletes and the Top 12 Relays in the Nation to compete for a National Title and All American Status.

“We have an off week coming up then our conference meet the following week. We have some more work to do, but I am truly excited about the championship season. I couldn't be happier for DK (Darien Kearney) and the hard work he and Coach Alexander have put in, in fact all of our throwers have shown tremendous improvement this year!” stated Head Coach Jackson.  “Our student-athletes are battling through the rigors of the season, everyone doesn't always have a PB (personal best) performance, but that's why we keep going back and working hard for the next competition. I love this sport, and what my staff and I have been able to accomplish in bringing the best out of these student-athletes continues to excite me daily.  We are looking forward to the conference meet and some outstanding team and individual performances over the next few weeks leading up to the National Championships
