Virginia State allowed Concord to shoot 47 percent from the field in a 76-63 loss at the Carter Center on Monday, Dec. 19 . Freshman guard DeVonte’ Williams scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds for the Trojans.<br />

The Trojans could not prevent the Mountain Lions hot shooting feat at home as Concord built a 14 point lead with 6:12 remaining in the opening half. Concord led at the half 39-25 after Virginia State went a cold 8 for 24 from the field. Concord made 14 of 30 field goals but knocked down four key three-pointers in that first half stamping a 14 point lead over Virginia State at the half. Kevin Wiggins both led the Trojans in the first half with 6 points each.<br />

The Trojans began the second half with a different pace and quickly answered the Mountain Lions attack speaking their own 9-0 run on back-to-back shots from long range by junior
Mike Bynum and sophomore Khalil Tate. Tate also added a lay-up on that run and finished the game with 8 points. The Mountain Lions would allow no more VSU runs for the remainder of the game. Concord built their lead back up to double-digits 46-36, on three straight made field goals by Damien Tunstalle. The Trojans did shoot better (51%) in the second half but struggled defensively exchanging too many baskets with the Mountain Lions.<br />

Kenny Mitchell scored 11 of his 12 points in the second half alone, leading the Trojans scoring. Freshman guard DeVonte Williams finished the game with 11 points but grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds in 23 minutes. Junior forward
Daniel Awosanya also scored in double-figures with 10 points.<br />

Virginia State will regroup for the Christmas break and will head to Pensacola, FL to face North Alabama on Dec. 30 and West Florida on Dec. 31 at the University of West Florida Classic.</p>
