PETERSBURG, Va. – The Virginia State University women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Ferrum College on Friday afternoon, highlighted by Vita Hochuli's first collegiate goal and head coach Frasier Brickhouse III picking up his first career victory as a head coach.
The Trojans controlled the match from the opening whistle, finishing with a 25-9 advantage in shots and placing 16 shots on goal. Virginia State also earned 10 corner kicks while its defense held Ferrum off the scoreboard.
Morgan Parris got the scoring started for the Trojans in the 33rd minute, giving Virginia State a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Virginia State continued to apply pressure in the second half, and Hochuli found the back of the net in the 57th minute off an assist from Parris. The goal marked the first collegiate goal of Hochuli's career and extended the Trojan lead to 2-0.
Erica Mathews added the final goal of the afternoon in the 85th minute to secure the 3-0 victory for Virginia State.
Tianna Roberts anchored the Trojan defense in goal, recording five saves and earning the shutout. The Trojans allowed just nine shots throughout the match while keeping Ferrum scoreless for the full 90 minutes.
