Flagler Downs Virginia State in Home Contest

ETTRICK, Va. (Apr. 1, 2026) — Virginia State dropped a conference matchup to Flagler, 15-4, on Tuesday afternoon.

Flagler (9-4, 3-0) controlled the tempo early, outscoring the Trojans 4-2 in the opening quarter before pulling away with a five-goal second period. Virginia State (1-8, 0-3) battled throughout but was unable to keep pace with the Saints' high-powered offense.

Devray Kirkland II led the Trojans offensively with two goals, including a pair of unassisted scores in the first quarter that helped keep Virginia State within striking distance early. Noah Byers added a goal and an assist, while Andre Bigham also found the back of the net in the fourth quarter.

After trailing 4-2 at the end of the first period, the Trojans were held scoreless in the second and third quarters as Flagler extended its lead to 13-2 heading into the final frame. Virginia State showed resilience late, scoring twice in the fourth quarter behind goals from Bigham and Byers.

Goalkeeper Jace Wiggins recorded 20 saves on the day, facing 62 shots from the Saints offense.

Flagler was led by Will Linko with four goals, while Micah Quinn and Cole Gaudet each added three scores to pace the attack.

The Saints held advantages in shots (62-21) and faceoffs (16-6), while both teams were perfect on clear attempts.
