Trojans fall to Gray Hounds

ETTRICK, Va. — The Virginia State University men's lacrosse team fell to Assumption, 21–5, on Saturday afternoon.

Assumption set the tone early, scoring 10 goals in the opening quarter to take a commanding lead. The visitors continued to control possession throughout the contest, outshooting Virginia State 66–18 and winning 24 of the game's 28 faceoffs.

Virginia State was led offensively by Andre Bigham, who recorded a team-high four goals on seven shots. Hayden Morrison added a goal and an assist, while Kevon Powell, Jayden Quil, and Dutch McLaughlin each contributed assists.

Assumption extended its advantage to 14–2 by halftime before adding three goals in the third quarter and four more in the fourth to secure the victory.

In goal, Jace Wiggins made 20 saves over 45 minutes of action for the Trojans before Arjun Warrier entered in the fourth quarter and recorded two saves.

Virginia State finished with 18 ground balls, with Jace Wiggins, Jace Wiggins, Allan Starks, and Deondre Brown helping lead the defensive effort. The Trojans also converted one of six extra-man opportunities, with Bigham scoring a man-up goal in the third quarter.
