Trojans Fall on the Road at Alabama Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Mar. 18, 2026) — The Virginia State University women's lacrosse team dropped a road contest at Alabama Huntsville on Wednesday afternoon at Charger Park.

Virginia State showed early fight, opening the game with strong energy on both ends of the field. The Trojans struck first when Aniyah White found the back of the net to give VSU an early advantage. Later in the first quarter, Emily Shields added another goal to help the Trojans regain the lead in what was a competitive opening period that ended tied.

Alabama Huntsville used a strong second quarter surge to take control of the contest. The Chargers capitalized on several offensive opportunities to build momentum and create separation heading into halftime.

Despite the deficit, the Trojans continued to battle throughout the second half. Unique Anthony recorded a goal early in the fourth quarter, while Bryelle Small added another score on a player-advantage opportunity late in the game.

Defensively, Virginia State was led in goal by Ilyana Jones, who made several key saves to keep the Trojans within striking distance during stretches of play. The Trojans also saw contributions across the field in ground ball battles and draw controls as they continued to compete until the final whistle.
