Ettrick, Va. (Feb. 19, 2026) – The Virginia State University women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener, 19-6, to Tiffin University Wednesday afternoon at Rogers Stadium.
The Trojans struck first when Nakiyah Jones found the back of the net at the 13:22 mark of the opening quarter to give VSU an early 1-0 advantage. However, Tiffin responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.
The Dragons used a strong second quarter surge, outscoring Virginia State 8-0 in the frame, to build an 11-1 halftime advantage. Tiffin capitalized on several player-up opportunities and controlled possession during the stretch.
Virginia State showed resilience in the second half. Unique Anthony opened the third-quarter scoring for the Trojans, while Carea Tuck added a free-position goal later in the period. The Trojans tallied three more goals in the fourth quarter, including scores from Tuck, Anthony, and Aniyah White.
Tuck and Anthony led VSU with two goals each, while Jones and White added one goal apiece. Kayla Carroll-Williams recorded an assist for the Trojans.
Defensively, VSU collected 13 draw controls, led by Tuck and Bryelle Small. Goalkeepers Ilyana Jones and Lyikiea Anderson combined for 14 saves in the contest.
Tiffin was paced by Lauren Walsh, Isabelle Vranjes, and Lillian Graham, who each scored four goals, while Kenna Wigginton added three.
Virginia State (0-1) will look to bounce back in its next contest as the Trojans continue non-conference play.
