PETERSBURG, VA --Five Trojans scored in double digits and Virginia State beat the 85-73 at home Monday.
The Trojans (8-7) had five players score in double figures, led by William Hopkins, who had 17 points and two steals. Tim Uzochuwku tacked on 14 points and three blocks and Amare Wimbush helped out with 14 points and six rebounds from the bench.
Virginia State shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 18 assists on 29 made field goals. Individually, Jacob Cooper dished out the most for the Trojans with seven assists.
Virginia State did a great job disrupting shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Uzochuwku's three rejections led the way individually for the Trojans.

After jumping out to a 37-27 advantage, Virginia State went on a 12-0 run with 3:01 left in the first half to increase its lead to 49-27. The Trojans then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 52-32 advantage. Virginia State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 28 of its 52 points close to the basket.
Virginia State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Hopkins' jumper, to grow the lead to 59-34 with 17:45 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Trojans still cruised the rest of the way for the 85-73 win. Virginia State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 33 points in the lane.
