Durham, N.C. (May 2, 2025)- The field events helped the Virginia State University team be only five point out of first place (48-43) after day one of the CIAA Championships.
Jahaz Morgan finished second in the long jump with the 26th best mark of NCAA Division 2 with a mark of 7.33 meters. Daryl Mackey Jr. and Keyonte Midgett placed seventh and eighth in the long jump. he men's high jump was won by Joseph Briscoe of Virginia State with a NCAA qualifying mark of 2.14-meter jump
Charles Randolph made the finals in the men's shot put with a season best throw of 13.36 meters which was good for eighth place.
Desmond Kirwa won the 1500 meter run with a time of 1:50.16. Emmanuel Kipchirchir and Jalen Brownlee both ran season best times to finish fourth and fifth respectively. Kirwa and Brownlee both made the finals in the 800-meter run. Benedict Uzochukwu placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.22 seconds, and he also placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles to make the finals in both events. Leonie Bentley also made the finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.51 seconds which was good for fifth in the prelims.
