Ettrick, Va. (Apr. 9, 2025)- The Virginia State University Women's Lacrosse team honored senior Aryanna Smith prior to the game against Chowan University (0-8). The Trojans would use a strong second quarter and running clock most of the second half to win 14-5.
Sophia Toye started the scoring for VSU before the Hawks scored three straight goals in the first 10 minutes. In the final 3 minutes 30 seconds of the opening stanza Kayla Carroll-Williams and Unique Anthony scored a combined three goals. Anthony scored a man up goal with 39 seconds left in the opening quarter to make it 4-3. To start the second period Carea Tuck won the draw control then scored a goal just six seconds. A minute later Aniyah White received a pass from Toye and made a dodge to score, before Toye added her second goal of the day two minutes later making it 7-3. It took nine minutes for the Trojans to score again as Toye added two more goals in the final two minutes making it a 9-3 halftime score.
To open the second half VSU scored two goals in the first two minutes, before scoring back-to-back man up goals 24 seconds between at each other, at the 11 minute mark, by Tuck and Morgan Terry to enact the running clock in the third quarter. Anthony added one more goal in the third stanza making it 14-3. Chowan did score two goals in the fourth stanza, but the Trojans managed to kill the clock to win. Ilyana Jones won her third game in between the pipes and finished with 15 saves.
The Trojans improved to 3-7 overall and will be back at Rogers Stadium on Saturday April 19 against West Virginia Wesleyan College at 1 p.m.
