Ettrick, Va (Mar. 9, 2025)- After going into the fourth quarter down 9-6 the Virginia State University Men's Lacrosse Team was outscored 4-2 to drop the match 13-8 to Dominican University New York.
To start the fourth stanza the Chargers scored two quick goals in the first two minutes making it 11-6. Dominican would double up the Trojans, 12-6 with nine and a half minutes left in the game. A minute later John Goebel stopped the run by netting a goal assisted by Kalani Laughlin. The Chargers added another then in rush mode Andre Bigham scored another goal for VSU with four minutes left. DU would kill time in the final four minutes only allowing the Trojans to get off two shots with one being on goal.
It took only three seconds into the game for Laughlin to score after Jayden Reid won the opening face-off and found him wide open. The Chargers answered with their own face-off win and goal. With less than five seconds off the clock both teams netted a goal. Four minutes later Donovan Elmore would give VSU back the lead. The Chargers scored the last two goals of the opening quarter. In the second quarter both teams would score two goals each by Laughlin and Miles Jackson to make it 6-4 going into halftime.
The third quarter saw the Trojans score two goals again by Laughlin from Andre Bigham and Elmore again, but Dominican netted three goals. After struggling in clears last game the Trojans went 22-23 this game. Travis McDonald finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. VSU drops to 2-6 overall and will return to Rogers Stadium to end their home stand on Wednesday March 12 against Emmanuel University at 12 pm.
