Virginia State University Trojans Secure Victory Against Lincoln University


Your Virginia State Men's basketball team (13-8) faces off against Lincoln University (15-7) for the second time this season. They dropped their last meeting and look to get back in the win column today.
 
Dajour Rucker gets the scoring started for the Trojans with a silky-smooth reverse layup. The score is 17-16 at the first timeout, VSU leads by one. Rucker is off to a hot start; his point total is six. The Lions claim the lead by one, after a timeout by sinking a pair of free throws. Nice footwork under the basket by Clint Wright Jr. earns him a layup and the Trojans tie the game up at 25 points apiece. Lincoln's Reggie Hudson sinks a tough jumper putting them up by one. Clint Wright Jr. answers back sinking a triple and VSU captures the lead right back. After a first quarter where neither team could gain momentum, the Trojans go into halftime trailing by one.
 
VSU strikes first to start the 2nd half with Jacob Cooper hitting a layup and putting the Trojans up one. A good scoring run puts VSU up by nine points with 15 minutes to play. Trojans look to pull away but a made three by Lincoln's Chase Jackson cuts their lead to seven points. A long-scoring drought by VSU forces a timeout. The score is 53-47. Jared White ends the drought with a jumper, their lead is eight. A pair of free throws by Dajour Rucker put the Trojans up by 10. Virginia State's lead is 12 after a Jacob Cooper layup attempt was goal tended. A tough layup by Clint Wright Jr. makes it a 61-49 game with just over four minutes left in the game. The Lions don't stop fighting and some sloppy turnovers from Virginia State help cut their lead to eight with three minutes to play in regulation. Some strong work on the boards by Dajour Rucker earns VSU another possession. The Trojans take advantage of the extra possession, Kendall Bynum knocks down a jumper after a nasty step back to get rid of the defense. The Trojans clean up the turnovers down the stretch and walk away with a comfortable 70-55 win.
 
Clint Wright Jr. led the team in scoring with 17 points, and Dajour Rucker led the team in rebounds with 10 he finished the game with a double-double.
 
Their next game is against Bluefield State University on February 12th at 7:30 pm.
