Ettrick, VA- Virginia State University (VSU) earned a hard-fought victory over
Bluefield State University (BSU) in a matchup that saw the Trojans maintain control throughout the game, ultimately securing an 89-78 win.
Virginia State University (VSU) began the game with a strong performance, quickly establishing a lead thanks to the contributions of
Clint Wright Jr.,
Dajour Rucker, and Daryl Mackey Jr,. leading to a commanding 12-5 advantage early on. Their effective scoring and play making created numerous opportunities for their teammates.
In contrast, Bluefield State struggled to find their rhythm early in the match, although Shainen Carter and Howell managed to make some key shots that helped chip away at the deficit.
As the game progressed, VSU's ability to score on fast breaks and dominate the paint, primarily through
Tim Uzochuwku and
Jaedan Jefferson, allowed them to extend their lead to 30-18. Despite a couple of attempts by Bluefield State to close the gap, Virginia State's strong defense and efficient scoring kept them in control throughout the match.
