Uzochuwku has double-double in Virginia State's 94-66 win over Barton

PETERSBURG, VA --Tim Uzochuwku notched a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds to help the Virginia State men's basketball team take down the Barton Bulldogs 94-66 at home Saturday.

In addition to Uzochuwku's solid outing, the Trojans (7-7) were led by Davian Coleman, who had seven points, eight rebounds and four blocks, and by Jacob Cooper, who added 15 points and four assists.

Virginia State out-rebounded Barton 51-34 in Saturday's game, led by Uzochuwku's 13 boards. The Trojans also pulled down 15 offensive rebounds and scored 19 second chance points.

Virginia State's defense held Barton to only 25.8 percent shooting from the field, including 17.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Trojans also limited Sean Quick-Streeter to 2-of-14 shooting in the game.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 40-25 advantage, Virginia State went on a 7-0 run with 4:50 left in the first half to increase its lead to 47-25. The Trojans then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 55-32 advantage. Virginia State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 30 of its 55 points close to the basket.

Virginia State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 90-63 with 2:28 to go in the contest. The Trojans kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 94-66 win. Virginia State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 39 points in the lane.
