ERIE, PA --The Virginia State men's basketball team got a 33-point showing from the bench, but fell 95-53 to the Gannon Golden Knights on the road Saturday.

Jaedan Jefferson led the Trojans (1-3) with 18 points and three steals. Davian Coleman also tacked on eight points and six rebounds and Tim Uzochuwku helped out with two points and three steals from the bench.

Uzochuwku pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead the Virginia State offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into 10 second chance points.

Virginia State forced 25 Gannon turnovers. The Trojans turned those takeaways into 21 points on the other end of the floor. Uzochuwku's three steals led the way for Virginia State.

How It Happened

Virginia State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 49-27 heading into halftime.

Gannon kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 95-44 advantage before Virginia State went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Amare Wimbush's layup, to shrink the deficit to 95-53 with zero seconds to go in the contest, The Trojans were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 95-53. Virginia State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 26 points in the lane.
