Petersburg,VA — In a closely contested match on October 5, 2024, Shaw University defeated Virginia State University (VSU) 2-1, leaving VSU searching for answers as they look to improve their season record.

The game began with Shaw taking an early lead just one minute in, thanks to a goal from Frida Lang. The Bears maintained pressure on the VSU defense, but the Trojans responded quickly. In the 4th minute, Skye Dixon scored the equalizer for VSU, assisted by Morgan Paris, igniting hopes for a comeback.

Throughout the first half, both teams exchanged opportunities. VSU's goalkeeper, Maya Cajchun, was instrumental in keeping the game tied, making several key saves against Shaw's aggressive offense. The first half ended in a 1-1 stalemate, with both teams showing resilience and determination.

As the second half commenced, Shaw made a series of substitutions to regain momentum. VSU continued to push forward, creating chances but struggling to convert. Cajchun's stellar performance kept VSU in contention as she turned away multiple shots from Shaw.
