Thrilling Showdown: SVA and VSU Battle to a Draw

The Virginia State University Women's Soccer hosted Southern Virginia University on Senior Day, the match-up was on Tuesday, October 29 at 4 pm in Rogers Stadium. A thrilling showdown between both squads leading the match to draw 4-4. For the Trojans, the new overall is now 1-9-4 while Southern Virginia is now 6-8-4. 



The match kicked off with both teams looking to establish dominance. SVA struck first when Abbie Klusman found the back of the net in the 15th minute, assisted by Mindi Montague. However, VSU responded quickly, with Morgan Parris equalizing in the 18th minute with an assist from Alana Martin.

As the first half progressed, both teams had several opportunities, with notable saves from both goalkeepers. Just before halftime, Sydney Bastian scored for SVA, leveling the game at 2-2 after Damaris Gaines had put VSU ahead 2-1 in the 32nd minute.

The second half began with a flurry of substitutions as both coaches sought to refresh their squads. VSU's Alana Martin scored again in the 51st minute, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of the Trojans. However, SVA quickly regrouped, and Lia Savage netted the equalizer in the 72nd minute.

The excitement continued as VSU was awarded a penalty, and Morgan Parris calmly converted it to put VSU back in the lead at 4-3. Just when it seemed VSU would secure the win, SVA's Storey delivered a stunning equalizer in the dying moments of the match, sealing a thrilling 4-4 draw. 

The match was a testament to the competitive spirit and resilience of both teams. With the season still unfolding, this encounter has set the stage for an exciting finish as SVA and VSU continue their campaigns. Fans can look forward to more thrilling matchups as these teams aim for victory in their upcoming games.

What's Next
The Women's Soccer team will head to North Carolina to go against Shaw University Bears on Friday, November 1 at 1 pm for the final game of the season.
