Shaw Dominates Virginia State in Lopsided Match

Raleigh, NC - The Virginia State Women's Soccer team visited the Shaw University Bears at a match-up on Friday, November 1, at 1 pm. The match ended with a 7-0 score and now the Trojans overall is 1-10-4 while the Bears improved with 8-6-1.


The game kicked off with Shaw quickly establishing control. Just before the end of the first half, Shaw scored two goals that set the tone for the remainder of the match. Abigail Harrison found the back of the net at the 29:16 mark, assisted by Brianna Garbrandt, followed shortly by Johanna Lillja's goal at 39:04, assisted by Alondra Lares. The first half concluded with Shaw leading 2-0, giving them a strong foundation heading into the second period.

As the second half commenced, Shaw continued to apply pressure. Lillja opened the scoring again just four minutes into the half, with an assist from Harrison, bringing the score to 3-0. Galicia Monforte then added to the tally, scoring another goal at 51:41, assisted by Lillja.

The floodgates opened further when Lillja netted her second goal of the match at 57:25, this time with an assist from Kira Schulte. Shaw's relentless attack showed no signs of slowing down as Giovanna Coghetto and Garbrandt added to the scoreline, pushing it to 7-0 by the final whistle.

Shaw's impressive performance solidified their position in the conference and showcased their potential as a strong contender this season. With key players like Lillja and Harrison leading the charge, Shaw looks poised for continued success as they progress in their campaign.
