Ettrick, Va (Oct. 26, 2024)- The Virginia State Volleyball team finally played their first two home games of the season in day one of the CIAA Round-up. The Trojans swept Livingstone 3-0 while dropping a match to Fayetteville State 3-1

GAME 1 VSU 3 LC 0

  • Trojans started set one with a 13-2 run with Morgan Green recording four kills during the run

  • A kill from Anya McKinley and then back-to-back service aces gave VSU a 19-7 advantage

  • Helena Eubanks ended the set with kills in between an error to win Virginia State the first set 25-12

  • Set two started the same as set one with VSU up 12-2 early and would see their lead get as big as 12 points three separate times

  • Kills from Gracie Darville and Eubanks ended the second set at 25-12 to put VSU up 2 sets to zero

  • Set three only saw the Trojans be up 9-2 early. Livingstone would then score three quick points before VSU answered with scoring 10 of the next 14 points having the score at 19-9

  • Four straight point from the Blue Bears got them into double digits but VSU would win the set with a six to one run with Amaya Cooper recording two kills

GAME 2 VSU 1 FSU 3

  • Set one was a back-and-forth affair until the Broncos went on a quick 5-0 run to be up 13-7

  • VSU answered by scoring six of the next seven points to get back into the set at 14-13. However, FSU would then score 11 of the last 15 points to win the set 25-17

  • Set two was again tightly contested at 13-11 with Fayetteville State holding the advantage

  • Six of the next seven points went to the Broncos to make it 19-12. Then VSU answered with five of the next seven to make it 21-17. The Broncos would end with four straight points to make it 25-17

  • VSU jumped out to an early 15-7 lead with seven errors by the Broncos. FSU managed to tie the game at 16 but VSU scored nine of the last 14 points to win the set with back-to-back kills from Eubanks

  • Set four was the inverse of set three with Fayetteville State holding a 20-11 lead before three straight Trojan points stopped the run. But the Broncos would score five straight to win the set 25-14 and the match
