Ettrick, Va (Oct. 15, 2024)- The Virginia State women's soccer team won their first home game in program history 3-0 over Regent University.
The Royals had the first good scoring opportunity in the match at the 14th minute as a player got past the defense and fired off a shot that Maya Cajchun made the save. A minute later Alana Martin and Morgan Parris both had shots that just missed the goal. However, the Trojans earned a corner after those shots where Skye Dixon would make an Olimpico goal off the corner.
The next Trojan goal would come off a penalty shot from Parris who converted it in the bottom right corner. Then in the 32nd minute Damaris Gaines had a long goal from outside the box to make it 3-0, the most goals the Trojans have scored in a game this year. In total Virginia State outshot Regent 12-1 in the first 45 minutes.
The second half was more about ball control for VSU as they only fired off seven shots and three on goal. Whereas the Royals picked up their pace and fired off four shots with three on goal. The best opportunity for the Royals came in the 50th minute as they fired off a shot that Cajchun saved but on the rebound the ball just went over the cross bar.
With the win VSU is now 1-8-2 and Regent drops to 1-7-0. The Trojans return to Rogers Stadium Saturday October 19 at 1 p.m. against Bluefield State.
