Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

VSU earns second win as Martin records hat trick

Columbia, S.C.- The Virginia State University women's soccer team won their second game of the season following a 4-2 decision over Allen (S.C.).

VSU put the pressure on early as they fired off three shots within the first seven minutes while only allowing one shot for the opposition.

In the first half Alana Martin scored the first goal of the day as she was able to beat her defender and rifle a shot into the lower right quadrant of the goal in the 28th minute. Then in the 36th minute Martin added her second goal as she put it into the upper left section of the goal giving VSU a 2-0 lead.

The goalie Maya Cajchun finished the first half with five saves on seven shots by the Yellow Jackets to preserve a clean sheet for the half.

It only took 39 seconds into the second half for Martin to record a hat trick, the first in program history and just two minutes after that Morgan Parris continued her torrid pace as she joined in scoring a goal making it 4-0 in the 48th minute.

Allen would finally get on the board in the 56th minute as they would avoid the shutout. Then in the 64th minute the Yellow Jackets were awarded a penalty kick, but Cajchun made a miraculous save to keep the score 4-1.

Parris fired off another shot in the 79th minute but the goalie made a tremendous diving save to prevent another goal from being added to the scoreboard. Allen would score in the 87th minute to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.

With the win the Trojans improve to 2-4-2 and the Yellow Jackets drop to 1-8. VSU returns home on October 4 to play against Lincoln University (Pa.) with kickoff scheduled for 3 pm. These teams meet on September 20, which ended in a 2-2 tie.
