Ettrick, Va.- The Virginia State university women's soccer team took on the Lincoln University Lions inside Rogers Stadium and dropped the match 3-1. These teams met last month and played to a tie.
The first half was a feeling out match for both teams as both teams only had three shots on goal in total, one for VSU and two for Lincoln. However, the second half was a different story. Gabrielle Franklin was able to beat her defender and play a beautiful ball to Morgan Parris in the box. Parris was then able to lob the ball over the goalie, who came out to play the ball and finish in the middle of the goal.
However, the Lions would then score three straight goals after the first one was scored after a shot was deflected off Maya Cajchun and right to a foot of a Lincoln attacker. The next two goals were both able to just sneak past the defense and find their way into the goal.
Late in the game the Trojans had a corner kick and had multiple chances to score a goal but with the box packed the Lions were able to keep VSU off the scoreboard and emerge as victors.
With the loss Virginia State 2-5-2 overall and Lincoln gets their first win of the season and are now 1-7-2 overall. VSU will stay at home and play on Saturday October 7 against Carolina University with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
