Ettrick, Va.- The Virginia state women's soccer team played for the second day in a row and earned a 1-1 draw against D-3 Eastern Mennonite University on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Unlike yesterday VSU spent most of the first half in their attacking third scoring the first goal in the 15th minute as Morgan Parris found the back of the net for her second goal this weekend. EMU only managed to get five shots off in the half with three on goal all being saved in easy fashion by goalkeeper Maya Cajchun.
However coming out of halftime the royals only needed 51 seconds to tie the game as a long pass out found a EMU player who slotted the ball into the back of the net. After that though both defenses tighten up allowing only three shots each the rest of the way. VSU had a chance to take the lead as Parris rifled a shot from just inside the box but it was saved tremendously by the Royals goalkeeper to keep the game knotted at 1.
The Royals had the last shot but the ball just went right above the crossbar and the period ended in a 1-1 tie.
It was the first tie for the Trojans who are now 1-3-1 overall and EMU is now 0-4-2 on the season. Virginia State will travel north as they take on Lincoln University (Pa.) on Wednesday September 20 with kick off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
