Lincoln, Pa.- The Virginia State University women's soccer team traveled to the state of Pennsylvania to take on Lincoln University (Pa.) Morgan Parris continued her hot stretch as she scored two goals.
It only took a little over five minutes and one shot, for Morgan Parris to score for the third straight game as she slotted a shot into the top right of the goal to give VSU an early 1-0 advantage. Lincoln answered with a shot in the 15th minute that was stopped with the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Maya Cajchun.
Lincoln would continue to fire off shots, but Cajchun got one more save, but on the Lions fifth shot they tied the game up at 1-1 at the 43rd minute.
Coming out of halftime Parris was fouled inside the box at the 51st minute. She was awarded a penalty kick and she made it count as it was fired past the goalkeeper to help the Trojans retake the lead 2-1.
The lions fired off four shots in a row at the 60th minute, the first two missed just to the right of the post, the third was saved by Cajchun but an unlucky deflection lead right to a Lincoln player who inserted the ball into the lower right corner to knot the game at 2.
After back-to-back corner kicks at 67:29 for VSU Parris once again found herself with a golden opportunity for a goal but a great reflex save by the lions goalkeeper kept the game tied. The Trojans defense had a tough test as they blocked two shots in the 70th minute and a shot hit off the post in the 71st minute.
In the 82nd minute Parris had a shot to deliver the kill shot but it just hit the top of the cross bar, then the lions had their own kill shot but Cajchun was able to comfortably save it. That was the last opportunity for both teams as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
In the stat sheet Lincoln had more shots (16-7), shots on goal (7-4) and corners (8-4), but Virginia State had more saves (5-2).
With the tie VSU moves to 1-3-2 overall and Lincoln goes to 0-4-2. The team stays on the road as they travel to Guilford College on Tuesday September 26 with kick off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
