Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

VSU drops inaugural home opener to D-1 Howard

Ettrick, Va.- The Virginia University Women's soccer team made history tonight playing their first home game against D-1 opponent Howard University. Unfortunately the match-up proved too much for the Trojans as they dropped the decision 9-0.

The defense was tested early as the Bisons had five shots within the first seven minutes , with goalie Maya Cajchun making four saves. Finally in the ninth minute the Bison's found the back of the net. Just twenty seconds after that Ava Stewart registered the first career shot for the soccer team.

Howard would add two goals in the 20th and 24 minutes to grow their lead to 3-0 early and would control the ball for the rest of the half adding another two goals before the half making the deficit for VSU 5-0 at half.

The second half was much of the same as the Bisons would add a quick two goals after the break and would eventually score a total of nine goals.

Cajchun ended her day with 12 saves. Howard however held the advantage in both shots (45-1) and corner kicks (17-0).

With the loss the Trojans drop to 1-2 overall and Howard advances to 4-2-1. Virginia State will stay home as they host Shaw University on Saturday, September 16 and Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday, September 17. Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m.
