VSU drops game against Emory & Henry

Emory, Va.- The Virginia State University women's soccer team dropped a match against Emory and Henry College 9-1, on Wednesday evening.

It only took seven minutes for E&H to net a goal as their first three shots were saved and the next two were missed wide. The Trojans would answer with back-to-back shots in the 19th and 20th minute as Alana Martin's shot was saved and Tatyana Carroll saw her shot go wide left.

Emory and Henry added another goal in the 37th minute as it went right to an attacking player after a tremendous team save on the shot prior. Then just three minutes later to make it 3-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half.

Martin fired off two shots before halftime but missed one right and the other was saved. Coming out of halftime E&H would add a fourth goal in the 52nd minute and four minutes later would score their fifth goal. A minute later, however VSU would avoid the shutout as Martin finally found the back of the net.

VSU would have two great opportunities as Martin almost scored back-to-back goals, but she missed just high, and Danica Walker missed high as well. E&H would score again in the 70th and 71st minute to make it a six-goal deficit for the Trojans.

Martin finished with five shots and three on goal. Carter also finished with five shots.

With the loss VSU is now 2-10-2 and Emory & Henry improve to 3-7-5. The Trojans play their last game in their inaugural season on Monday October 30 at 5:00 p.m.
