Ettrick, Va.- The Virginia State university volleyball team hosted the CIAA Roun-up this weekend. They ended the Round-up 2-1 with wins over Claflin 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-19) and St. Augustine's 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20) and its lone blemish against Fayetteville State (22-25, 23-25, 25-27).
Game 1

The first set was a back-and-forth affair as neither team would own a lead larger than four points. However, the Trojans would score three of the last four points to win the first set 26-24.

In the second set after trailing 20-14, the Trojans would finish on an 11-2 run. During the run four different players had a kill including Helena Eubanks with two.

The third set was a set of runs. Both teams had multiple runs of either 4-0 or 5-0.

With the Trojans leading 19-18, three kills from De'Mya Robinson and two from Peyton Reese put the game in favor of VSU.
Game 2

After dropping the first set, VSU and St. Aug played very even second set, but the Trojans ended it on a 3-0 run with a kill by Eubanks and two attacking errors to win the set.

Both the third and fourth set were won by the Trojans 25-20 and it was in the air as to which way the set would go until late

In the third set Virginia State would end with a 4-0 run winning the set with a service ace by Leila Jackson

The fourth set ended with a 6-1 run with kills by Kennedy Hoge and Taniyah Epps and two attack errors
Game 3

VSU and FSU played the first set very competitively. Neither team could fully gain control as the largest lead for either team was 7-3 in favor of the broncos

VSU would only hold a one-point lead twice in the first set, but would ultimately drop the set

The Trojans would open the second set on a 6-3 run. The Broncos would answer lower in the set with a 4-1 run to tie the game at 16

The Broncos would use two separate 3-0 runs and a 2-0 run to win this set

The third set was the most exciting set of the weekend as it was tightly contested

Both teams were trading the lead until the Trojans went on a 3-0 run, thanks to a kill by Hoge and two attacking errors to have a 15-13 lead

The Broncos answered with a 6-1 run to retake the lead at 21-17, after FSU got to the 24-point mark, Eubanks and Robinson delivered back-to-back kills to extend the set

However the Broncos would score the final two points after the Trojans once again tied it at 25, to win 27-25
Over the three games Hoge would notch 20 kills, Robinson would gather 20 and Eubanks would collect 39 and record double digit kills in every game. Najlaa Williams would record at least 20 digs every match and collect 73 in total. The Trojans now sit at 4-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play, they stay home as Lincoln (Pa.) comes into the MPC on Thursday October 5.
