Bowie, MD --The Virginia State Volleyball team (8-8) took a set off the defending champions but ultimately fell 1-3 to Fayetteville State (10-25, 20-25, 25-18, 22-25).

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Trojans came out strong with starting out the set 2-0. That lead was shortly turned after the Broncos went on an early 12-0 run quickly making the score 2-12. Both teams continued to trade points and VSU tried their best to shorten the extended lead but the Broncos dominated the first set with a final score of 10-25.
SET 2 | With the Broncos starting the set with a small 1-3 lead, the Trojans managed to go on a 3-0 run taking the lead at 4-3. The teams continued to trade points including back to back kills from Emma Quarles and Amaya Cooper. The Broncos then kicked up the intensity with extending a 5 point lead making the score 17-22. This lead was immediately shortened when back to back powerful kills from Leyla Conley made the score 19-22. VSU fought back all they could but could not pull through this set with FSU ending the set with a final score of 20-25.
SET 3 | With the Broncos opening up with a slight lead, both teams intensely traded points until the Trojans went on a 3-0 run which included both a captivating service ace from Leyla Conley and a kill by Zaria Irons tying the score at 12-12. The Trojans then went on a mighty 6-0 run including back to back intensity from Amaya Cooper with a block and a kill extending their lead 20-14. VSU was able to conquer the third set including a back to back kill and service ace from Makenzy Johnson making the final score 25-18.
SET 4 | For this set, both teams came with intensity as they traded points the majority of the set until FSU went on a 4-0 run taking the lead and making the score 15-17. The Trojans fought right back going on a small run including a powerful kill by Makayla Berry tying the score 17-17. With intense back to back kills from both Amaya Cooper and Leyla Conley, the Trojans were able to keep this set at a tied game 19-19. The Trojans then tied the game once again applying pressure with a kill by Helena Eubanks. However, the Broncos dominated the rest of the set with scoring the last 3 points making the final score of this close intense game 22-25.

The Trojans will be right back on court #2 in Theodore McKeldin Gym to take on Claflin University at 1:00 p.m. to conclude the CIAA Roundup.
