VSU Volleyball Earns Second Straight Conference Victory 3-0 against Lincoln (Pa.)

Trojans have swept their last two opponents and even their record at 7-7 after winning six of the last seven matches.

ETTRICK, VA --The Virginia State Volleyball team (7-7) is red hot winning six of their last seven matches after notching their second conference victory against Lincoln (Pa.) 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-18).
 
 
Game Notes
  • Helena Eubanks led the match with 11 kills on a miraculous .526 hitting percentage. Eubanks also earned a match and career-high four blocks.
  • Makenzy Johnson made her presence felt after earning a match and career-high seven service aces. She also led the match with 15 assists.
  • Najlaa Willaims tied the match-high with nine digs.
  • The Trojans finished with a season-high .200 hitting percentage.
  • VSU earned a season-high 16 service aces in the win.
  • The Trojans outscored the Lions 51-31.
     
    How It Happened
    SET 1 | The Lions were able to earn the early lead 2-4, until Helena Eubanks landed a pair of kills to put the score at 7-4. After the Lions scored five staright to take the lead 10-11, it inspired a 6-0 run for VSU to bring the score to 16-11. As the two would continue to battle, VSU scored five points straight headlined by back-to-back aces from Leyla Conley to make the score 22-14. VSU scored eight of the last nine points to take set one 25-15.
     
    SET 2 | The Lions came out set two on fire taking the first five points. The Trojans would fight back to bring themselves to within one at 8-9. With their backs against the wall, to Trojans went on a 7-0 run thanks to three straight service aces from Makenzy Johnson to make the score 15-11. While the Lions were able to pull to within one, the Trojans kept them at arm's length. The Trojans were able to hold the Lions off to take set two 25-21.  
     
    SET 3 | Zaria Irons helped the Trojans attain the early lead in set three thanks to a pair of kills to make it 5-2. The two teams would continue to trade points but the Trojans kept the slight edge 10-7. The turning point for the Trojans came when they were able to score five of six points by way of a pair of kills from Helena Eubanks to make the score 16-10. The Trojans were able to use their momentum to help them extend their lead to 21-12. After the Lions scored six straight points to make the score just 21-18, the Trojans scored four straight to take set three 25-18

    What's Next
    The Trojans are hitting their stride heading into the first CIAA Volleyball Roundup as the team has their work cut out for them. The squad will face Livingstone at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24. At 3:00 p.m. they have a date with the defending CIAA Champions in Fayetteville State to conclude day one. On Sunday, September 25 the Trojans will get a rematch with the team who put them out in the Quarterfinals of the 2021 CIAA Volleyball Tournament in Claflin at 1:00 p.m.
