RALEIGH, NC – The Trojans Men's Basketball team earned a solid first conference against St. Augustine's 69-55 after earning nine steals which led to 12 points VSU did a great job crashing the boards again outrebounding the opponents 36-31 while accounting or seven offensive rebounds. The Falcons were held to 33.3% from the field and 20% from the three-point range which led to SAU shooting 37.7% from the field and 27.3% from the field in the game. The Trojans on the other hand had their way inside the arc shooting 50% from the field and 35.3% from beyond the three-point arc. VSU shot 30 free throws but only 63.3% of them were able to find the bottom of the net. The squad did damage in transition with 10 fast break points while also scoring 24 points in the paint.
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald recorded his second straight double-double which makes four on the season. Fitzgerald scored 14 points on 5-of-9 (55.6%) shooting from the while knocking down a game-high 4-of-7 (57.1%) from downtown. He ripped down 11 rebounds along with two assists and a steal in the win.
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield led the team with 16 yet again on 6-of-12 (50%) shooting from the field along with three rebounds as well as two assists. Hunter-Whitfield earned three steals in the contest which make it the seventh game this season he has earned three or more steals in a game.
Tremere Brown earned his eighth double-digit scoring game this season after accounting for 10 points while shooting 2-of-4 (50%) from the field and ripped down five rebounds (two offensive) in the win.
Zach Newkirk scored eight points with three rebounds, four dimes and a steal.
Daryl Mackey,Jr. also added eight points on 3-of-4 (75%) from the field and 2-of-3 (66.7%) from beyond the three-point line. Mackey, Jr. grabbed a season-high four rebounds (two offensive) with an assist.
