WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Virginia State University Men's Basketball team fought hard but were no match for George Washington losing 85-58 after trailing just 43-30 heading into the halftime break.

In the exhibition matchup against the Division One, A-10 opponent,
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald stepped up when the lights shined bright leading the team with 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field with eight rebounds, four assists and a team-high three steals.

The Trojans had a tough night shooting after finishing with a field goal percentage of 31% while shooting 36% from three-point range. While Trojans were able were able to draw 24 fouls but shot just 57% from the foul line. The Trojans won the offensive rebound 15-14. Virginia State had active hands on defense accounting for nine steals while forcing 15 turnovers.

Terrence Hunter-Whitfield was the only other Trojan to score in double figures hitting 4-of-5 of his free throws. He scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
Tim Montgomery and
Dajour Rucker both scored seven points in the contest. Montgomery added four assists with three rebounds and two steals. He led the team with seven made free throws which made him 70% from the free throw line. Rucker was the only Trojan to go 100% from the field going 2-2 from beyond the three-point arc.

The Trojans will be back in action this weekend as they prepare to host the Trojan Tip-Off Classic taking on Millersville at 8pm in the VSU Multipurpose center on Friday, November 12.
