ETTRICK, VA – A late go-ahead three-pointer prevented the VSU Men's Basketball team from pulling off the upset against UNC-Pembroke as they fell 61-58 to conclude the VSU Thanksgiving Classic.
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield led all scorer's in the contest as he scored 17 points. He also led the team with five rebounds along with a game-high six steals.
Tremere Brown continues to own the paint after scoring 10 points after going 4-of-5 (80%) from the field along with three rebounds and a steal.
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald scored nine points in the contest along with five rebounds and two assists.
Zach Newkirk led the game in assists with five to go along wit seven points.
Dajour Rucker scored a key six points off the bench on 3-of-5 (60%) from the field along with two rebounds
The Trojans did a solid job protecting the ball after racking up 10 assists while along committing a season-low nine turnovers. VSU forced UNCP to commit 20 turnovers in the contest which led to 10 steals. The Trojans forced the Braves to shoot 33% from the field and 0-of-9 from beyond the arc. They were able to get the Braves in foul trouble as five players amassed at least three fouls.
