BOWIE, MD ( September 23, 2021)- The VSU Trojans volleyball team broke a 3 game losing streak by taking down the Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The road game 3-set (25-19, 25-20, 25-10) victory is the start of conference play for the 2021 season.
The first set proved that the Trojans were in control as they quickly extended the scoring gap. The combination of Bulldog errors and Trojan kills elevated VSU to as much as a 10 point lead. BSU seemed to gain momentum, but the Trojans strong lead resulted in their 25-19 set 1 win.
Battling in set 2, the Trojans had to stay focused on their game as the Bulldogs found a scoring groove. VSU continued to make necessary plays to maintain the lead and take a 25-20 set 2 victory.
Set 3 undoubtedly belonged to the Trojans, as they held the Bulldogs to only 10 points. Dominating their competition, VSU ultimately secured a 3-set win.
Rookie
Helena Eubanks collected a game high 11 kills, in addition to being evenly matched with rookie teammate Kennedy Hogue with 3 aces each.
Sophomore
Emma Quarles secured 18 assists, while rookie
Najlaa Williams accounted for 11 digs.
Next Up
The Trojans will return home to take on the Lions of Lincoln University on September 27. The first serve is slated for 6pm.
