Charlottesville, N.C. (May 6, 2021) - The Virginia State University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team traveled to Charlottesville, VA to compete in the Virginia Grand Prix where the men's team represented VSU in six events. The meet took place at the Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia. The Trojans competed against the likes of Norfolk State, Syracuse, Liberty, South Carolina along with a handful of other division one and two programs. The USA as well as Turks and Caicos were represented in the meeting also.
 
 
Track

After placing second in his heat for the 100, freshman sensation Treelee Banks – Rose placed third of 18 sprinters overall after posting a 10.54 which was .10 away from his own school record. Fellow Freshman, Victor Smith, set his first of two personal records after winning his heat with his 10.80 sprint. Junior Dacarai Clark set a personal best after finishing his race in 11.60. 

The 200 saw Banks Rose set a personal record, win his section and, place third with his 21.43 sprint. Smith set his second personal best of the day after finishing in 22.14. A place behind Smith came Sophomore Joel Bowers who posted a 22.22.

Sophomore Jonathan Gordon represented Virginia State in the 110 Hurdles as he was able to finish in 14.67.

 The 4x100 team comprised of Smith, Banks Rose, Clark, and Bowers rounded the track in 41.14. 


Field

Senior Emmanuel Oguntoye continues his unbelievable 2021 campaign after he covered 14.86m that placed him fourth of 10 competitors. 

Freshman Daryl Mackey jumped 6.80m in the long jump which placed him tenth. 

  
Up Next 
The Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the Aggie Classic Twilight. The meet will take place Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m.
