ETTRICK, VA (September 7, 2019)- The VSU Trojan Volleyball team fell to Shepherd University (3-1) and Davis and Elkins College (3-0) on the final day the 2019 VSU Trojans Home Season Opener Tournament.
Under the leadership of 3rd year head coach Amanda Walker, the Trojans currently hold a 1-3 season record.
After battling hard in set 1 against Shepherd, the Trojans were victorious with a 28-26 set win. The Rams picked up their momentum to gain an edge over VSU, taking set 2 (25-20), set 3 (25-15) and set 4 (25-15) for the 3-1 game win.
Jailyn Ivey led the team with 10 kills and 3 aces, while Bria Anderson stepped in with 19 assists. Kennedi Cannon and Ambria McBride were not too far behind with 6 kills each.
The final matchup of the tournament featured VSU and Davis & Elkins. The Trojans attempted to control the sets, coming within points of taking the lead. Although they did not secure a set or the overall win, they gave their opponent tough competition.
Kennedi Cannon controlled the game for the Trojans with 10 kills while Anderson chipped in 15 assists.
Despite facing these loses, VSU faced tough opponents that has prepared them for conference play in the next coming weeks.
The Trojans will return to action on September 13-14 for the Bellarmine Invite in Louisville, KY.
