ETTRICK, VA (September 17, 2019)- The VSU Trojan volleyball had a speedy home game appearance against the Chowan Hawks, after ousting them in 3 sets.
The victory moves the Trojans to a 3-6 overall record, while the Hawks move to a 1-3 record. In the Coach Amanda Walker Era, VSU holds a 4-1 series record in their matchups against Chowan.
Both teams battled for the lead early in set 1, with the score tied 5-all. VSU would soon go on a 5-0 run to take a 12-6 lead over the Hawks. Despite Chowan working to close the scoring gap, the Trojans had an edge to give them the 25-22 set 1 victory.
VSU held the Chowan under 20 points in the final 2 sets with a score of 25-17 and 25-18, giving the home team the overall victory.
Recently named CIAA Offensive Player of the Week for week 2, Jailyn Ivey took charge of the game with 15 kills, 27 attacks and 2 assisted blocks for 16 points.
Defensively, CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week 2, Alexis Baker, had a game high of 12 digs, while CIAA Setter of the Week for week 2 Bria Anderson stepped in with 21 assists.
The Trojans will return to the VSU Multipurpose Center on September 26 to face the Bowie State Bulldogs. The first serve is set for 6pm.
