VSU Basketball Travels to Take on Livingstone Blue Bears

ETTRICK, VA (December 4, 2019)- The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Salisbury, NC to take on the Blue Bear of Livingstone College on Thursday, December 5. The women's game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

Women's Matchup

Entering the contest with a 5-3 overall record, 1-1 in the CIAA, the Trojans are coming off of a 62-47 win over the Shaw Bears on December 2, extending their winning streak to 5 games.

The Blue Bears are coming off of an 90-66 win over Morris College on December 3, currently holding them at a 2-3 overall record.

The Trojans are currently led by Autumn Hopson, averaging 12.6 points per game. Chiqueria Cook and Natalia Leaks are closely matching in VSU recoveries with 5.4 and 5.0 rebounds per game respectively.

For the Blue Bears, Adel Allen currently leads the team with 18.0 points per game while Georgia Cambell controls the Blue Bears recoveries with 5.8 rebounds per game.

VSU women's basketball last faced the Livingstone Blue Bears during the quarterfinals of the 2019 CIAA Tournament on February 26, 2019, where the Trojans fell short of win, 67-63.

Men's Matchup

The VSU men's basketball team will also be entering the Livingstone matchup with a 5-3 overall record, 1-1 in the CIAA. The Trojans are coming off of a 113-82 win over the Bears of Shaw University on December 2.

The Blue Bears are coming off of an 115-69 win over Morris College on December 3, currently holding them at a 5-2 overall record.

Leading the Trojans with an average of 12.0 points per game is newcomer Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald. Andrew Corum remains consistent under the basket for VSU, averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.

Livingstone is led by Lydell Elmore who currently averages 18.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

The Trojans last faced the Blue Bears during the semifinals of the the 2019 CIAA Tournament, where VSU came out victorious, 75-65.
