RALEIGH, NC (December 16, 2019) - The Virginia State University men's basketball team gained a 71-59 victory over the Falcons of St. Augustine's University in the Trojans last road game of 2019. The win moves the Trojans to an 8-4 overall record.

FIRST HALF
Taking an early lead off of an 8-0 run, the Trojans quickly dominated the court. As the matchup progressed the Falcons attempted to close the scoring gap. As missed shots and turnovers plagued both teams, SAU managed to tie the game 23-all and 27-all with under six minutes left in the half. VSU bounced back to reclaim their lead with much needed shots to include dunks by
Andrew Corum and
Armond Griebe.

The comeback allowed the Trojans to enter the locker room with a halftime lead of 37-29.

SECOND HALF
Despite the Falcons landing a shot from behind the arc to open the half, the Trojans went on an extended run (9-0) to take a 48-32 lead with 14:04 left in the contest.

Making it a team effort, the Trojans worked to control the game, earning them a double-figure lead and the overall 71-59 victory.

Although evenly matched with the Falcons in points off of turnovers (15-15), the Trojans regulated the points in the paint (34-28) and second chance points (7-6).

LEADERS
Antwan Miles led the Trojans scoring with 20 points over the Falcons in addition to three assists and a single steal.
Walter Williams also left his mark on the court with 14 points and a single assist while Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald secured 10 points, a single steal and a single assist.
Andrew Corum also grasped double-figure scoring with 10 points, alongside recovering eight rebounds.
Armond Griebe was evenly matched with Corum in recoveries with 8 rebounds as well.

UP NEXT
The VSU men's basketball team will host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday, December 21 for the last game of the 2019. The 4pm contest will tipoff at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
